I showed up late to the football party. A big rivalry and all.
The snack selection was dwindling and beers were flowing. IPA's, Stouts and Lagers were being slurped in between shouts and critiques.
But I brought the FUN wine!! A bottle for each team, as a matter of fact.

Yellow Tail wines seemed the perfect choice both for their team colors and for their easy-drinking, unfussy style. No one wants a wine that is developing layers of flavors while cheering on their team and munching on chips and Pico de Gallo.
Yellow Tail wines are named after the yellow-footed rock wallaby, a smaller cousin of the kangaroo that has a golden tail.
The founding Casella family has its roots in wine-making dating back to the early 1800's in Italy's countryside. In the mid-1900's, members of the Casella family moved to Australia and were quickly producing wines there. In 1994 a new winery was built and Yellow Tail wines began their worldwide distribution plans.
The winery remains in the Casella family today with the sixth generation now joining the business.

Yellow Tail Sangria has a brilliant ruby red color!
Aromas are juicy fruity and the palate shows lots of red berry fruit with cherry and tangerine. The juicy fruits are sweet and bright and the wine ends with a clean finish.
GO IOWA HAWKEYES!!
Yellow Tail Shiraz is drier and heavier than the Sangria, yet retains an easy-to-drink style filled with ripe fruits.
Aromas are of blackberry with dried herbs and spices. The palate is soft and welcoming holding flavors of plum and blackberry along with spicy oak.
I was hoping for an Iowa State Cyclone win, but the Hawkeyes were dominant in the end.
I was happy enough though, sitting on the couch, watching the game, and drinking sips of both wines, all in the name of fairness of course.
