My Sick Week
Yep. This is a good representation of my last week. My temperature hit 103. I made several trips to the doctor. And, nary a drop of wine was drunk
Finally Some Improvement
Antibiotics can be a wondrous thing. Within twelve hours of my first dose, things began to improve.
So, What's A Recovering Girl to Drink?
A wine with a good comfort factor was in order. I wanted nothing too big, over-the-top in fruit or acidity; Just a pleasant, balanced wine to savor. I chose the M. Chapoutier Belleruche Blanc.
The WOW!
The Belleruche Blanc is a combo featuring mostly Grenache Blanc. This grape, found extensively in France's Rhone Valley, is used most often for blending. It makes frequent appearances in the famous red blend, Chateauneuf-du-Pape as a bringer of lift and crispness. Here, it is the backbone of the wine, blended with the lesser-known grapes, Clairette, and Bourboulenc.
The pale golden color hints at a delicate nature. The nose shows lots of minerality with a balance of tropical fruits.
On the palate there is more of the mineral quality along with crisp green apple and a hint of peach and melon. My palate was a bit compromised, due to the aforementioned health issues. Yet, on a sunny afternoon, amid buzzing bees on blooming flowers, and alongside a plate of cheeses, the Belleruche Blanc brought refreshing coolness, and a rejuvenating clean, pleasant experience.
The Final Word
M. Chapoutier Belleruche Blanc was just what the Dr. ordered!
