J Winery Pinot Gris on a Hot Summer Sunday

Sunny and hot!  Oh, how I love Summer Sundays.
As the sun dipped behind neighboring rooftops, it was time for a crisp, cooling wine in the shade.

The J Winery Pinot Gris California packaging screams REFRESHMENT with its clear bottle showcasing the gentle golden hue of the wine and the simple adornment of the sunny yellow "J".

I poured small glasses for quick gulping before the wine could warm up.  Serving it this way on a sultry evening indeed brought refreshment.

Pear, melon, apricot and mineral abound on both the nose and palate.  Refreshing lemon citrus and a hint of honey round out the flavors.  The texture is crisp and the finish is bright and clean.

This 100% Pinot Gris is sourced from vineyards in the Russian River Valley to provide grapes with acidity and also from vineyards in Monterey County.  The bright acidity and vibrant fruits paired so well with a cantaloupe, prosciutto, and fresh mozzarella salad I adapted from the July issue of Real simple magazine.  A dressing of olive oil and honey balsamic was drizzled over and fresh mint from the garden was sprinkled on top.

My hot Summer Sunday came to a cool and satisfying finish with the last drops of the J Pinot Gris.
