Rose' wines have always had my heart, so upon seeing vintner Charles Smith's words, "Yes, you can drink rose' and still be bad *ss", I was charmed.
Sipping Charles Smith's wines are always about more than the wine, it seems. Smith's flamboyant presence is there as well, from his oft-quoted maxims, "It's Just Wine, Drink It", to his edgy black and white labels on his Charles Smith line (charlessmith.com), to his rock-star, Sammy Hagar looks.
Here, he teams with fellow winemaker Charles Bieler (threethieves.com) to make this rose' from Washington's Columbia Valley. They blend 81% Syrah, 16% Mourvedre, 2% Cinsault, and 1% Grenache to achieve their goal of "the perfect balance of fruit, acid, and savory."
The nose reveals juicy strawberry, cherry, and watermelon. The juicy fruit follows on the palate--lip-smacking strawberry and watermelon. The mid-palate shows some mineral notes which lead to the finish of zesty bites of lime.
Indeed, all components work together in balance for a fresh, zesty, rockin' good rose'!
A bowl brimming with fresh raspberries is the perfect pairing!
The bottle was emptied, and I was bad *ss!
